Yellow Ackie Monitor - Juvenile

The Yellow Ackie Monitor (Varanus acanthurus) is a small monitor species native to Australia. These juveniles are captive bred, and unsexed.

Lifespan: ~15 years

Max Size: ~26" from nose to tail tip.

Terrarium Size: 40 gallons is suitable for juveniles, adults will require a 4'x4'x2' enclosure.

Heating and Lighting: Ambient temperatures should not drop below 80 degrees Fahrenheit during the day. A basking spot of 120 degrees Fahrenheit should be provided during daytime hours. Strong UVB lighting during daytime hours is also mandatory. Nighttime temperatures should not drop below 65 degrees Fahrenheit.

Humidity: A water dish should be provided, and their substrate should be misted periodically to maintain a humidity between 65% - 85%.

Diet: Ackies are primarily insectivores, and do best on a varied diet. We recommend alternating between crickets, superworms, dubia roaches, and silkworms. Eggs, fish, shrimp, hornworms, and small rodents can be fed occasionally as a treat. A high-quality calcium and vitamin supplement should be provided.
