Ornate Uromastyx - Juvenile
The Ornate Uromastyx (U. ornata ) is a medium-sized species of lizard native to Saudi Arabia and Egypt. They're popular due to their generally laid-back nature, and their herbivorous diet.
Lifespan: ~20 years
Max Size: ~13" from nose to tail tip.
Terrarium Size: 40 gallons is suitable for juveniles, adults will require a 4'x4'x2' enclosure.
Heating and Lighting: Ambient temperatures should not drop below 80 degrees Fahrenheit during the day. A basking spot of 120-130 degrees Fahrenheit should be provided during daytime hours. Strong UVB lighting during daytime hours is also mandatory. Nighttime temperatures should not drop below 70 degrees Fahrenheit.
Diet: Uromastyx are unique in the sense that they should eat exclusively plant matter. Their daily diet should consist of a rotating mix of fresh vegetables (collard greens, spring mix, arugula, pea shoots, alfalfa, bok choy, dandelion greens, clover sprouts), topped with a high-quality calcium and multi-vitamin powder. Additionally, these animals should be provided a source of seed and legumes weekly (such as millet, birdseed, and dried lentils).
